For over a year now, Orvis and Four Wheel Campers have been working together to create a special-edition camper designed specifically for fly fishing. What really separates this camper from other pop-up truck campers is the built-in rod storage and mud room. Combine these fishing-specific features with a host of other small touches, and you get a pretty impressive off-grid, four-season fishing cabin on wheels.

Fly Fishing Truck Camper

The Orvis Edition Four Wheel Camper models, Hawk for 6.5-foot bed trucks and Grandby for 8-foot bed trucks, are designed to fit most full-size American pickups. Both models are essentially the same, but the larger Grandby offers up considerably more interior seating room.

The Orvis Rod Bunker and Orvis Mud Room make this a fly-fishing-specific truck camper. These features are unique to these Orvis special-edition campers from Four Wheel Campers.

The Rod Bunker is an area in the cabover that is accessed from the outside of the camper and holds up to six 11-foot (broken down in two pieces) fly rods, three per side of the camper. It locks and is waterproof.

The Orvis Mud Room is a wet and dry storage cabinet that has inside and outside access. It has a one-piece rotomolded plastic liner that makes it super-durable, as well as water- and smell-proof. Put your wet, stinky, and muddy gear into this cabinet from outside the camper, and have access to it from inside as well. The drain on the floor makes it easy to clean, while the removable shelf and L-track make it super-configurable for your particular trip gear load.

Stylish, Functional Truck Camper

On the outside of these campers, you’ll find a bunch of L-track. This offers a ton of versatile, semi-permanent, and quickly removable gear storage options.

You’ll also find electrical — USB-A and -C as well as 120V — outlets. You can also option the camper with an outdoor shower connection and outdoor propane hookup

The electronics are powered by a 135Ah lithium battery system. It can be charged up with up to 500W of optional roof-mounted solar.

Inside these special-edition campers is a tried and true Four Wheel Campers layout.

As you enter from the rear of the truck, you will see a storage cabinet on your right that has all the electronics, sink, cooktop, and some counter space. The sink is flush mounted to maximize the counter space and the stove — either propane or optional induction — is portable, allowing for quick, easy cooking inside and out.

On the left is a cabinet module that has the Orvis Mud Room and an 85L fridge/freezer. It also has additional storage.

Moving forward in the camper, you get a dinette that converts into a bed and a cab-over queen-size bed — which can be upgraded to a king.

Under the cab-over bed is a large gear storage area, perfect for clothing and other personal items.

Throughout the interior, you’ll find bamboo countertops and black cabinet faces — both firsts for Four Wheel Campers. The upholstery on the bed and dinette cushions can be had in gray or black, and is made of Orvis ECO CORDURA fabric.

Heat, A/C, hot water, and so much more can be added at the factory, depending on your needs, wants, and budget.

Orvis Edition Four Wheel Campers: Availability & Pricing

The Orvis Special-Edition Four Wheel Camper models were released today for full-sized trucks. You can order your own now through Four Wheel Campers dealers now.

Pricing starts at $38,000 for the Hawk OE and $39,000 for the Grandby OE, but those prices are a bit misleading. The price of one of these campers quickly goes up as you add features like a larger bed, pop-top insulation, a toilet, camper jacks, an awning, a roof rack, hot water, heat, A/C, more lithium, more solar, and a plethora of other useful optional upgrades you’ll likely want.

I quickly built the camper how I’d spec one out for a Hawk model, with a modest middle-of-the-road build without A/C. The all-in price for the Orvis edition Four Wheel Camper Hawk came out to $58,330 — with over $20K of that being options.
